Mike Wilson

President and Chief Executive Officer

Mike Wilson is the president and chief executive officer of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines. Mike has over 22 years of Federal Home Loan Bank experience. Prior to his current role, Mike served as president of FHLB Des Moines since June 2015. Mike was also president and chief executive officer of FHLB Seattle, and, prior to that, an executive vice president and the chief business officer of FHLB Des Moines. 

Before joining the Des Moines Bank, Mike was a senior executive vice president and the chief operating officer for FHLB Boston, where he worked for 12 years. In addition, he served as the Bank’s executive vice president for finance from 1997 to 1999 and senior vice president for planning and research from 1994 to 1997. Prior to his service at the Boston Bank, he was the director of the Office of Policy and Research at the Federal Housing Finance Board in Washington, D.C. Mike has a B.A. in economics and political science from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a M.S. in economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.


EVP & Chief Business Officer

Dan Clute is executive vice president and chief business officer at the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines. Prior to joining the Federal Home Loan Bank in 2011 as its senior vice president and director of communications and external relations, he served as vice president and treasurer of Wells Fargo Financial, vice president and state director of public affairs for Citigroup and site chief financial officer for a Citi Cards operations center.

Dan has also served in public office. He was elected to Iowa House of Representatives and the Clive City Council. Dan was appointed by the governor of Iowa to the board of directors of the Iowa Student Loan Liquidity Corporation in 2012. He also serves as past president of the board of directors for Habitat for Humanity of Iowa, Inc. His previous board experience includes serving as president the Greater Iowa Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and vice president and treasurer of Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity.

Dan received his MBA from the University of Iowa, where he also obtained his B.B.A. degree in Finance. Dan is a native of Mason City. He and his wife Toni have two sons and reside in Urbandale.


EVP & Chief Operations Officer

Steve Schuler is executive vice president and chief operations officer for FHLB Des Moines. Steve has management responsibility for Business Process Management and Building Administration.

Prior to joining the Bank in 2006, Steve was chief financial officer, treasurer and secretary for Iowa Wireless Services from 2001 to 2006. This followed a long and distinguished career at Brenton Banks from 1977 to 2001 when Brenton Banks were acquired by Wells Fargo. Steve began his tenure at Brenton as an internal audit manager and held a variety of positions with Brenton Banks, eventually serving as the corporate senior vice president, chief financial officer, secretary and treasurer. Steve is a Certified Public Accountant and received his B.S. degree in Industrial Administration from Iowa State University.

EVP & Chief Risk Officer

Dusan Stojanovic is executive vice president and chief risk officer for FHLB Des Moines. Dusan has responsibility for the Bank's enterprise risk management area, including credit risk, market risk, operational risk and model validation. Dusan joined the Bank in March 2008 as vice president and financial risk officer, and was appointed to chief risk officer in July 2009.

Before joining the Bank, Dusan held a variety of positions of increasing responsibility with the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago from 2006 to 2008, Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond from 2005 to 2006 and the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis from 1995 to 2003. From 2003 to 2004, Dusan served as the vice governor for banking supervision at the National Bank of Serbia. Dusan received his undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Belgrade and his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Economics from Washington University in St. Louis. Dusan also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation from the CFA Institute.

 

Glen Simecek

SVP/Director, Western Office

Glen Simecek is senior vice president/director for the Western Office of FHLB Des Moines. Prior to joining FHLB Des Moines in 2015, he served as the FHLB Seattle senior vice president and chief business officer.

Previously, Glen worked for JPMorgan Chase/Washington Mutual Bank as first vice president for term debt management and treasury investor relations. In this capacity, he was responsible for managing Washington Mutual Bank’s unsecured debt program, including the dialog with domestic and international fixed-income investors. In addition, he served as a liaison between the rating agencies and Washington Mutual’s executive management.

From 1997 – 2005, Glen was vice president and manager of the Member Services Group at FHLB Seattle, responsible for developing and managing the Bank’s large-customer relationships and all aspects of the advance deliver process, as well as held the role of primary liaison among members, legal and credit teams.

From 1993 – 1997, Glen also worked as a funds manager in the FHLB Seattle Treasury Group. In this capacity, he was responsible for ensuring the Bank’s adequate liquidity and maintenance of appropriate Federal Reserve account balances.


SVP/Treasurer

Bill Bemis joined FHLB Des Moines in May 2013 as vice president/treasurer. In this role, he provides leadership, strategy, management and direction for the Treasury Department.

Bill has 12 years of securitized product research and portfolio management experience at AmerUs Capital Management and Aviva Investors. During his tenure at AmerUs and Aviva, he held a variety of capital market positions most recently as vice president, senior portfolio manager (Securitized Products).

Bill received his undergraduate degree in Finance from the University of Nebraska and his MBA from the University of Iowa. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, and is a member of the CFA Society of Iowa.


SVP/Director, Human Resources

Nancy Betz joined FHLB Des Moines in April 2004 as director, Human Resources. In this role, she provides leadership, strategy, management and direction for the Human Resources Department.

Prior to joining the Bank, Nancy worked as director of Human Resources at Wells Fargo Home Mortgage and DuPont Pioneer. During her tenure at DuPont Pioneer, she held a variety of positions, including global human resources for the sales and marketing division and corporate learning and development responsibilities. Her leadership responsibilities have involved aligning human capital and workforce strategies with the business strategy.

Nancy received her undergraduate degree in Business Management and M.S. from Drake University.  


SVP/Chief Accounting Officer

Ardis Kelley is senior vice president and chief accounting officer at FHLB Des Moines, a position she has held since joining the Bank in June 2012. In this role, Ardis provides leadership, management and direction for the Accounting Department and ensures sound business operations as well as proper disclosure of required financial, operational and management information to safeguard the Bank's assets.

Prior to joining the Bank, Ardis worked as assistant vice president, Accounting and Reporting at CNA Insurance in Chicago, Illinois. Previous experience includes senior manager, Transaction Support and Accounting Policy at Accenture in Chicago as well as accounting and audit positions in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, New York City and Los Angeles, California.

Ardis received her undergraduate degree in psychology and linguistics from the University of California, Los Angeles and a Master of Accounting degree from the University of Southern California. 


SVP/General Counsel & Corporate Secretary

Aaron Lee joined FHLB Des Moines in 2006, and is currently the SVP/general counsel & corporate secretary. In this role, he has direct responsibility for the FHLB Des Moines legal and compliance department. He advises management and the FHLB Des Moines Board of Directors on all legal matters impacting the Bank, including those involved with establishing or changing business direction as well as all matters concerning SEC registration, reporting and governance.

Prior to joining FHLB Des Moines, Aaron worked in private practice as an associate attorney with the law firm of Harris, Mericle & Wakayama PLLC in Seattle, Washington.

He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa and his Juris Doctor degree from DePaul University College of Law.


SVP/Director, Portfolio Strategy

Joelyn Marren is currently senior vice president and director of Portfolio Strategy for FHLB Des Moines. Prior to her current role, Joelyn served as vice president and director of portfolio strategy since 2008, and is currently responsible for the strategic direction of the management of the Bank's balance sheet. Previously, Joelyn held a number of different roles in market risk management from 1999-2007, including interim financial risk officer in 2007.

Prior to joining FHLB Des Moines in 1999, Joelyn was the investment portfolio manager at RBC-Centura in North Carolina from 1997 to 1999. From 1991 to 1997, Joelyn held various roles in investment portfolio management at CoBank, a member of the Federal Farm Credit System in Colorado.  

Joelyn received an undergraduate degree from Iowa State University and her M.S. degree in Finance from the University of Colorado.


SVP/Director, Internal Audit

Since 2006, Kelly Rasmuson has held the position of senior vice president and director of Internal Audit for FHLB Des Moines. In this role, Kelly has direct responsibility for the Internal Audit Department and all related activities. Additionally, he investigates fraud and whistleblower complaints and coordinates with external auditors, federal examiners and outside consultants.

Prior to joining the Bank, Kelly held positions of increasing responsibility with the internal audit and mergers and acquisition teams at Principal Financial Group in Des Moines from 1997 – 2006. Before moving to Iowa, he worked in a variety of positions at several companies in Columbus, Ohio, including audit roles with one of the large international accounting firms.

Kelly received his undergraduate degree from the University of Northern Iowa and his MBA from Xavier University. He is also a Certified Internal Auditor and Certified Public Accountant.
